FLORA is the result of the natural evolution of The Future is in the Forest initiative.
The Future is in the Forest is a movement driving a new economy in the Gran Chaco Americano region, promoting sustainable, competitive and inclusive development by combining new knowledge and technologies with local knowledge.
From 2010, this movement has been promoting business ecosystems addressing social, environmental and climate challenges:
- Improving the revenues of the most vulnerable people by implementing nature-positive production;
- contributing to local goals for climate mitigation, preserving forests and restoring degraded environments;
- promoting climate adaptation
- in this highly vulnerable region caused by climate change.
After ten years, The Future is in the Forest is integrated by more than 5000 ventures and 94 organizations from Argentina, Bolivia and Paraguay. From these nature-positive businesses, 65% are led by women and 66%, by native people.
More than 140 projects have been implemented, mobilizing more than US$20 million to build forestry, regenerative agriculture and livestock, beekeeping and creative industry business ecosystems. In total, 27 agencies, institutions and organizations have contributed to developing the business models proposed by The Future is in the Forest.
Over the 2.69 million hectares where these ventures are located, nearly 41 million tons of CO 2 emissions will be reduced over the next 10 years.
The Future is in the Forest has succeeded in building in the Gran Chaco biome critical foundations for a vibrant market for nature-based solutions.
To turn these business models into scalable investment opportunities and to catalyze nature-based impact economics, we needed an innovative financing mechanism that builds up market infrastructure and its development.
Evolution has come.
FLORA is born.
